Who doesn’t love a little extra money? Here are some fun and easy ways to save money and put items into recirculation!
TREY’s new flea market on Telegram! Many students have wished for a students-only flea market group on Telegram, and it’s understandable: in the jungle of online thrifting, all sorts of “dibs, sent you a DM, measurements, let me ask my spouse, can you reserve it for me for five weeks, can you take a picture of it with a match box” messages are a constant hassle. Community-internal thrifting, however, is usually easy and safe, and you can set up a face-to-face meeting on campus or a locker exchange!
Based on these wishes, we have created a new flea market group on Telegram in which students can send messages related to selling, buying, and donating items. The group has been divided into four categories: Clothes, Home & deco, Books, and Games and freetime. This way, it’s easier to find items that you need from the group. The more-detailed rules on selling can be found in the group!
Join the group through this Telegram link.
“Tampereen yliopiston opiskelijoiden ja henkilökunnan FB-kirppis”, the Facebook flea market group for the students and staff of Tampere University, which is moderated by TREY, has around 4,900 community members who recirculate their items effortlessly.
Tampere University’s Recycling Room. ESN FINT’s Recycling Room can be found on the City centre campus, in room A132 in the Main building. The room is on the left side of the main entrance hall of the Main building. You can leave items in the room or take some with you! The room has specially clothes, and it’s a great place to find something for your sits outfit!
Thrifting events organised by associations. Many associations operating within TREY organise thrifting events for their members or for the entire student community! Some thrifting events have a theme such as annual celebration dresses. You can find thrifting events by actively checking TREY’s event calendar and by keeping up with associations’ own communications.
Hoping for concert tickets? Both Jodel and Telegram have their own ticket market places (Jodel: @lippukauppa, TG: t.me/lippukauppa) in which tickets are usually resold at low prices near the day of the event. However, be careful when making transactions! There might be scammers.
Online thrifting on Tori and Vinted Bigger platforms guarantee bigger markets for buying and selling! Tori and Vinted are singlehandedly some of the most used platforms for used items, and sending packages with the Helposti code has become a popular option recently. The buyer pays the shipping costs, and the seller sends the package.
Old school flea markets to glory! The Tampere area has plenty of excellent flea markets, which the Flea Market Appro organised by Kollektiivi also promoted. You can look for inspiration for a flea market visiting tour from, for example, the Second Hand Tampere map.
Donate items you don’t use! If an item or a piece of clothing is still usable, you can donate it. In addition to the Recycling Room at the City centre campus, you can also take items to the donation boxes of the Finnish Salvation Army, Fida, the Finnish Red Cross, and UFF. These boxes can usually be found around the parking areas of larger supermarkets. You can also take items to the reuse centres in Tampere. They even offer a free-of-charge pick-up for larger items! Many charities also accept donations: one example would be Hope ry, a charity that collects children’s items. Please remember that donated items have to be clean and in good condition.
