The Board of TREY decided on the allocation of grants in its meeting on 18 June 2025. In accordance with the Association Standing Order, the decision was made within two months of the application deadline. TREY’s operational grants will be paid out in June. The support granted by the Student Union Building Foundation (Tampereen Ylioppilastalosäätiö) will also be transferred to the bank accounts of the applicant associations as soon as possible.
This year, 130 associations applied for funding, of which 126 were granted support. The application form was completed via TREY’s association portal, JIPPO. Due to technical challenges related to the launch of the portal, some applications and attachments were submitted to the Association Sector via email. As per the Association Standing Order, the Association Sector contacted associations about missing attachments or responses.
A total of €86,000 in TREY operational grants was distributed this year. Of this, €50,000 was allocated based on the quality of the association’s operations, assessed through a scoring system based on the responses given in the application. €36,000 was distributed based on financial need.
The Student Union Building Foundation distributes its own grants to applicant associations in proportion to the operational grants awarded by TREY.
The motivational part of the funding was divided according to the number of points received by associations. This year, one point in the final scoring table was worth €8.85. A maximum of 95 points could be awarded to associations engaging in educational and social affairs advocacy as well as tutoring. For associations not involved in those activities, the maximum score was 65. This year’s highest scores were an impressive 91.25 out of 95 and 57.5 out of 65. Based on this, the calculated maximum incentive-based support was €840.74 for 95 points and €575.25 for 65 points.
The total amount of means-tested part applied for was €102,082.77. This portion was evaluated based on the financial situation of the association and the justifications provided in the application. The needs were roughly categorized into three groups: essential needs, projects, and other expenses. Essential needs referred to support required for the continued operation of the association. Particular attention was paid to newly established associations since the previous grant cycle and to subject associations in weaker financial standing. In general, projects were not funded. Most project applications involved moving and furnishing association spaces. TREY supports such projects and acquisitions through a separate project grant, of which a substantial amount is still available for 2025. Other expenses included costs, expenditures, and justifications outside of the previous categories, and were generally not funded.
