How are we going to make an impact in the upcoming county and municipal elections, where decisions will be made on many themes affecting students in Tampere? Our and Tamko’s new county and municipal election program has the answer!
The joint regional and municipal election program of the Student Union of Tampere University (TREY) and the Students’ Union of Tampere University of Applied Sciences (Tamko) has now been published! The programme consists of five themes, which form a vision of Tampere as the best student city in Finland, where it is good to live, study, work, engage in hobbies, live and move arounds, both during your studies as well as after them. The county and municipal election program was approved by both Tamko’s and TREY’s representative councils at their meetings at the end of September.
“The program is a great combination of Tamko’s and TREY’s advocacy policies, and it offers clear and common guidelines for county and city advocacy in the upcoming election period. The program is the students’ perspective on the future of students’ everyday life, which every student in Tampere Universities community has had the opportunity to influence!”, comments Julia Väänänen, chairperson of Tamko’s board.
The county and municipal election program brings together the lines of lobbying and advocacy work for 35,000 Tampere students. The program tackles employment policy, urban culture, planning, as well as students’ well-being and maintaining the ability to study.
“It is important for us students to clearly highlight our own policies, because no one else is going to do it for us. Young people are the largest age group in Tampere, so you should listen to us. Together with Tamko, we can transmit a clear and unified message from the students,” says Noora Hakulinen, chair of TREY’s Executive Board.
TREY’s and Tamko’s county and municipal election program can be read here! The county and municipal elections will be held on Sunday 13 April 2025.
