Application period extended! Apply to be a Student Representative in University Administration for the term 2027–2028!
Application period for student representatives, also known as hallopeds, for the Faculty Councils of the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences, the Faculty of Education and Culture, and the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences for the term 2027–2028 has been extended.
The application period for these positions ends on 20 September 2026.
The application period for student representatives for the following Faculty Councils has been extended:
- Information Technology and Communication Sciences: 5 members, 5 deputy members
- Education and Culture: 5 members, 5 deputy members
- Engineering and Natural Sciences: 5 members, 5 deputy members

What’s happening during AI Week? Explore the programme for students
How can AI be used effectively in studies? How to write better prompts? How is AI changing the world of work? You can find answers to these and many other questions during this autumn’s AI Week, taking place 28 September to 2 October 2026. Throughout the week, there will be webinars, workshops and discussions for anyone interested in artificial intelligence.
AI workshops on Thursday 1 October
Thursday’s programme is aimed particularly at students. The workshops will introduce practical ways in which AI can support learning, studying and showcasing your skills.

Sharpen your prompting skills in webinars
Designing and refining effective prompts is essential for successful use of AI. During AI Week, two webinars will focus specifically on prompt engineering:

AI Studio: Discussions on current AI topics
The AI Studio will explore some of the most topical AI-related issues right now. This session will focus e.g. on the AI-driven transformation of working life and the safe use of AI in higher education.
Friday 2 October, 9.00-11.00: AI Studio – AI in Our Everyday Lives: Assistant, Threat or Something in Between? (Teams, event announcement coming soon)
The discussion will be held in Finnish with simultaneous interpretation into English.
Although Thursday’s programme is designed especially for students, all other AI Week events are also open to anyone with an interest in artificial intelligence. Take a look at the programme and choose the sessions that interest you most.

University of Tampere Foundation sr Application for grants from donor funds in 2026
The University of Tampere Foundation declares the grants from the following donor funds open for application. The application deadline is September 22, 2026.
1. Vocational education fund
The fund awards grants up to the maximum total amount of €25.000 for research in the field of vocational education.
2. Kalle Kaihari’s heart research fund
The fund awards one or more grants up to the maximum total amount of €15.000 for current research in heart diseases.
3. Fund for municipal studies
The fund awards grants up to the maximum total amount of €10.000 to students who have been successful in their studies towards a master’s degree in local governance or to postgraduate students who have shown talent in the field.
4. School of business administration fund
The fund awards grants up to the maximum total amount of €5.000 for research in business administration at Tampere University.
5. Information systems fund
Emeritus Professor Pertti Järvinen’s Information Systems Fund awards grants up to the maximum total amount of €1.200 for postgraduate studies and/or research in information systems science at Tampere University.
6. Teemu Tuominen’s international crisis management fund
The fund awards one grant of €1.200 to an undergraduate student in political science, for example, for a field trip abroad or for an international conference.
7. Anu Kirra fund
The fund grants €18.000 to chronically ill or disabled students. The fund prioritises applications from talented students who suffer from arthritis and have limited means of support. Explain why you apply for this particular grant; detail the sum you apply for as well as the planned use of the grant.
8. Matti Naarminen’s fund
The fund grants €10.000 for research on prostate cancer.
9. Juho, Amalia and Helka Koljonen’s fund
The fund awards grants up to the maximum total amount of €15.000 for research in geriatric research.

Blog: As a halloped at the heart of university democracy
Are you interested in being a halloped? Do you know what the Academic Board is? Is there democracy in the University? Ellinoora Laaksonen’s blog answers all of these questions.
Hello!
I am Ellinoora Laaksonen, a student of literary studies and a former student representative in university administration, an ex-halloped, who just finished their term in the Academic Board. The Academic Board is the highest academic administrative decision-making body of Tampere University. Still have no idea what I’m talking about? The Academic Board is responsible for establishing and terminating degree programmes, approving curricula, and appointing the board of the foundation university, among other duties. Issues related to research and education are actively brought to the Academic Board for discussion, and the rector and vice rectors always open meetings by sharing news from their areas of responsibility. The most important duty of the Academic Board is to make sure that the voice of the community gets heard by the rector and vice rectors and other bodies that prepare matters. The opinion of the Academic Board has an effect on further handling of matters, even when the Academic Board would not have the actual authority to decide.

We can be found at Student’s Navigaattori on both the City Centre campus (Main Building, 1st floor, A121) and Hervanta campus (Kampusareena, 2nd floor, A215, booth B) campus on Wednesdays from 12:00 to 14:00 on the following dates:
