Installation of the new campus access control system begins in Atalpa on the city centre campus – virtual access cards introduced

The University introduces a new virtual access system, a mobile app called STid Mobile ID in phases. The access system changes start in Atalpa building on Tampere University’s city centre campus and access to this building will require a new access card starting in late May. This change is due to the implementation of a new campus-wide access control system. It is recommended that students that use Atalpa services activate the new virtual access card to their smartphones. The Atalpa building houses the SportUni sports centre. After the switch, existing access cards will no longer work in the Atalpa building. During the transition period, users will need to use a new access card to access SportUni, but accesses in other campus facilities will work normally with your student card. The exact date for Atalpa changes will be announced later once the installation project begins.

If you have paid SportUni’s sport fee, you will automatically receive instructions to your tuni.fi email address. This email will be sent from the address stidmobile-id@stid.com. The email will instruct sport centre users to download the STid Mobile ID mobile app to their smartphones and then activate the new virtual access card through this app. This method is the preferred option for students to obtain access rights. If you are unable to start using the virtual access card to gain access to the sports centre on the city centre campus, you can collect a new physical access card from SportUni’s customer service desk, which is located on the ground floor of the Atalpa building.

The changes in access system will be done in phases until year 2028, next up are Virta, Linna, Pinni B ja Päätalo on city centre campus. Later Kauppi campus will implement the system and lastly Hervanta campus. The new student cards ordered from TREY starting autumn 2025 will work as access cards in the new system as well, but the old student cards won’t – download the app instead for access once the changes progress!
