TREY’s Council has decided today in its 26 August meeting to propose TREY’s Chair, Laura Heino, to be the Chair of the National Union of University Students in Finland for 2026!

Heino, 26, is studying civil engineering for the seventh year, majoring in Construction Production. Heino has served as the Chair of TARAKI, the Guild of Civil Engineering at Tampere University, as well as on the guild’s committees and Board on fuksi education related matters, among other things. Last year, Heino served on the Board of the Teekkari Union of Tampere, and this year she serves as the Chair of the Board of the Student Union of Tampere University.
“The student movement is living in challenging times as students’ livelihoods are weakened and funding for universities is cut. In challenging times, we need to stick and work together even more than before. I have a lot to contribute to this, and I want to act as a gathering force as SYL and the student unions prepare for the parliamentary election year”, states Heino.
The National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) represents Finnish university students on a national level and advocates for them. SYL’s Chair and Board are elected by representatives of all student unions in a General Assembly, which will be held from 14–15 November 2025. TREY will be represented by a delegation with a whopping 21 votes. This delegation was also appointed by the Council in today’s meeting.
