TREY’s nominations for the Board of Tampere University: Jari Järvenpää and Marina Lampinen

In its meeting on 28 August 2025, the Board of the Student Union of Tampere University (TREY) decided on its nominations for the Board of Tampere University. TREY decided to nominate Secretary General Jari Järvenpää and Director of Public Affairs and Corporate Responsibility Marina Lampinen to the University’s Board.

“Both Järvenpää and Lampinen strongly represent the values of the Student Union and have important experience in the interface between science and society, civic engagement, and the corporate world. Both of them have an excellent understanding of the current situation at our university and are eager to be a part of the Board and take our university forward”, says Laura Heino, Chair of the Student Union of Tampere University.

Jari Järvenpää (M.A., history) serves as the Secretary General of the Urban Policy Council. Järvenpää has a strong background in various work tasks of academic research and societal advocacy. He has worked as a project manager at Helsinki Graduate School of Economics, as an account director at Ellun Kanat and as a CEO at Rapport. Järvenpää, who graduated from the University of Tampere, is a member of the Board of Social Science Professionals (YKA), has previously served as Vice Chair of the Finnish National Youth Council and Youth Sector (Nuorisoala ry), and held various positions in the student movement.

“As an alumnus of the Student Union and the University, I was very happy to hear that I was nominated to the Board of the University by students. The university community is facing major challenges and opportunities both in Tampere, Finland and globally. It would be an honour to be able to take part in solving these questions, which affect the everyday life of every member of the university community, but also more broadly the future of Finland”, Järvenpää describes the nomination.

Marina Lampinen (M.A., education) works as the Director of Public Affairs and Corporate Responsibility at Mehiläinen, in addition to which she also serves as the Chair of Aseman Lapset ry. Lampinen would bring to the Board the teachings of the corporate world as well as her strong experience in civic organisations.  Lampinen has gained knowledge of university cooperation and politics in the student movement, at Miltton as well as in the European Parliament. In addition, she has served on the Board and as Vice-Chair of the Hyvinvointiala Hali ry, the Finnish Association of Private Care Providers.

“Science, research and high-quality competence are the cornerstones of a good society and sustainable development. Tampere University is one of Finland’s most interesting hubs of multidisciplinary expertise and thus also a significant societal actor. I am very excited and proud to be nominated to the Board of the University”, Lampinen commented on the proposal.

The terms of four members of the Board of Tampere University Foundation, acting also as the Board of Tampere University, will come to an end at the end of 2025. In the Autumn, the Academic Board will appoint new members to replace those whose terms are ending. Three candidates will be appointed for a full four-year term and one for a two-year term, with Anne Jalkala, Director of Responsibility and Strategy, resigning from the Board. The proposals regarding one four-year term candidate and one two-year term candidate come from the founders of the Tampere University Foundation.

The university community has the opportunity to nominate candidates for the Board until 31 August 2025. Further information and a nomination form can be found on the Intranet of Tampere University (requires signing in with the Tampere University user account).
