TREY proposes Noora Hakulinen to be the Chair of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) and Mira Kokko to be a member of the Executive Board in 2025!

TREY’s council of representatives has decided today in its 27 August meeting to propose TREY’s Chair, Noora Hakulinen, to be the Chair of the National Union of University Students in Finland and TREY’s board member Mira Kokko, who is responsible for international affairs and national educational affairs, for SYL’s Executive Board in 2025.

Hakulinen, 24, is a sixth-year journalism student in Tampere University. Hakulinen has served in various posts on her subject association’s board, participated TREY’s Council of Representatives, and this year, she has been the Chair of the Board of TREY.

“My year as the Chair has taught me a great deal of new things about individual and value-based leadership. In SYL, I want to continue the good leadership and sharp influencing, as well as take care, that all the students have as bright a future as possible,” envisions Hakulinen.

Kokko, 27, is in her seventh year at the university, having spent the first two years studying communications and the last five in journalism. During her time at the university, Kokko has been actively involved in her subject association for several years and has also participated in the university’s Council of Representatives and the Union of Journalists of Finland. This year, Kokko has been acting in TREY’s board, where she is responsible for international affairs and national educational affairs.

“Finland’s asset has for a long time been good education, and it should also be visible in the funding of universities and in investing in students. Students should be allowed to be full-time students without burning out in a balancing act between studies, work, hobbies and worries about income. International students have been burdened with unreasonable costs and we need to alleviate this load by all possible means.” outlines Kokko.

The National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) represents Finnish university students on a national level and advocates for them. SYL’s chair and board are elected by representatives of all student unions in a General Assembly, which will be held from November 15 to 16, 2024. TREY will be represented by a delegation with a whopping 20 votes.
