Tampere University invites applications for internationalisation grants from student associations affiliated with the student union TREY. The grant is worth 20 000euros. The University wants to support and encourage student associations to take measures that promote the integration of international students and the internationalisation of students. The University grant is a support package separate from TREY’s operational grant but the awarding of the grants is coordinated in cooperation with TREY.
The inclusion of English-speaking degree and exchange students in associational activities, as well as getting to know Finnish-speaking students, promotes the participation and well-being of international students. It also promotes the home internationalisation of Finnish-speaking students and the accumulation of internationality expertise. The successful integration of international students into the university community increases the internationality, openness and well-being of the entire university community.
Preparations for the allocation of grants are taken by a committee comprising staff members from the University’s Financial Services, Education and Learning, Communications as well as representatives of TREY. The committee will prepare a proposal for the allocation of grant funds and review the reports that will be submitted by grant recipients. The final funding decisions will be made by the President of Tampere University.
Grants may be awarded to support the development of international activities. Examples for such projects are:
- Employment events, company visits
- Cultural education and events
- Orientations about exchange studies
- Events that support networking and encounters with new people
Criteria for awarding grants for 2025
Both the impact of the activities and the quality of the application are considered while assessing the applications.
In allocating the grants, the activities and projects in the applications are prioritised in descending order as follows:
- Projects that promote employment of international students in the Tampere region. (e.g. employment events, company visits)
- Projects that promote employment of international students outside the Tampere region. (e.g. employment events, company visits)
- Projects that promote international students’ orientation to studying and otherwise supports studies. (e.g. tutoring, educational events)
- Projects that promote the integration of international students into Finnish society (e.g. cultural, physical and recreational events)
- Projects that promote the home internationalisation of international and Finnish students. (e.g. international exchange departure orientation)
In addition to this, one assessment criterion is the grant’s outreach, i.e. how many international and Finnish students benefit from the grant.
Grants are primarily allocated to projects that meet the criteria in sections 1) to 4). Support will be provided for projects in other sections if there are enough funds to be provided from the grant after the evaluation of the projects in sections 1) to 4).
Funding will not be granted for organising sits parties or other similar student party events.
Funding will not be granted for activities for which financial support has already been sought from Tampere University (for example, from a faculty).
Practical information
Grants are offered to support activities that will take place in 2025. Funding may be sought for one or more types of activities. If grant is applied for several projects belonging to different grant classifications, they must each be applied for with a separate application. This significantly helps with processing applications.
Maximum amount to be granted is limited to 3000 euros/per association. However, exceptions may be made for particularly justified reasons.
The activities organised with the support of the university’s student activities must take into account both the current guidelines of the higher education community and the current guidelines of the authorities concerning the organisation and safety of events.
The closing date for Internationalisation Grant applications is Wednesday 19.2.2025. Apply for the internationalisation grant by filling out a separate application form in Microsoft Forms.
Attach the following appendices to your application:
- Student association’s latest completed financial statement, including a balance sheet and an income statement.
- The budget of the project, with the project’s revenue and expenditure itemised. If there are several projects, the association must present a budget for each of them.
At the end of 2025, the association will provide feedback reflecting the use of the grant.
