Introductions of the chairperson applicants
Laura Heino (6th year civil engineering student, RATTOISA)
Hi! I’m Laura, a 6th year civil engineering student and I’m applying to be the chair of TREY for 2025, because I want to work towards a more open student union that looks more like its members.
I have a strong background in student associations, having served as the minister of culture of the Teekkari Union of Tampere, as chair of the Tampereen Rakentajakilta, and on the board of the Uranaisten Opiskelijaseura. I have been involved in TREY’s council of representatives for two terms. Thanks to my strong background on associations, I am able to identify the strengths and developments of our community and take a broad view of the issues involved in it. My responsibilities have taught me how to manage and lead large projects, as well as how to plan for the longer term.
As the chair of the student union, I would be a people-oriented leader who sets an example to others through my actions. As a leader, it is particularly important for me to have an active and open interaction with the board and to take care of the well-being of the board members. There is power in our community and as the chair I would like to make TREY an even more effective student union by making its activities better known to our community. During my time as chair, TREY would be seen as an open and transparent and even more student-oriented student union.
Rolands Jansons (4th year biomedical engineering student, MEMES 3.0: Tokyo Drift)
Howdy! I’m Rolands “Rolle” Jansons, a 4th year biomedical engineering student. For the past year I have been the vice-chair of TREY, with sector responsibilities in associations and tutoring. My year on the TREY board has motivated and inspired me all the more, which is why I am now applying to become TREY Chair for 2025.
In my association career, I have served as the host and chair in my home guild, Bioner. I started my TREY activities in 2023-2024 as a full representative in the council, and 2024 I was chosen to serve on the TREY board in a very varied capacity. I consider my experience in TREY as an invaluable asset and I am applying for the chairmanship because I want to implement ideas that would lighten the burden on both board members and employees and make our processes more efficient. I am not afraid to challenge myself and I can react flexibly and effectively in unexpected situations.
My colleagues have described me as a warm and upbeat person who works hard, is disciplined and has an excellent grasp of the big picture. My absolute top priority as a leader is to create a good team spirit and an open atmosphere, and to build trust with the board members so that they feel confident in talking to me about even the smallest concerns. My TREY would be an inspiring and engaging community, setting an example for others through its efficiency and expertise.

I only got interested in student organization activities after starting university, but in these few years, I’ve realized that this is truly my thing! It’s wonderful to be involved in meaningful work for the benefit of other students, especially in tutoring, knowing how important it was for me when I first started university.
